Swag was more common a word in WWII-era America and England than it is today (well, probably, the search cuts off at 2008). Of course, back then the word meant “a. an ornamental drapery or curtain draped in a curve between two points; b. an ornamental festoon of flowers or fruit; and, c. a carving or plaster molding of such an ornament.”

Now its’ a noun with no clear definition, and an interjection that means even less — but is used even more. It’s just shocking to think that while you might think you live in the Golden Age of Swag right now, with The Atlantic writing about the word’s meteoric rise to prominence, we’re still lagging behind wartime Britons (who wrote about window dressings) in our use of the word.
