This is a short video that I edited for the United Way about the emotional impact of hurricane sandy, focusing on Staten Island. People are still without heat, some without homes, and many more will be struggling with the trauma of the storm for years to come. In the wake of the storm, mental health issues on Staten Island have skyrocketed. More and more cases of PTSD are being reported as people struggle with the trauma of having been caught in the flood waters and having their lives upended. The Staten Island Mental Health Society is working to help people cope and rebuild their lives, especially young children who have been affected.
